Dawn chorus...

The dawn chorus has just begun. There is a single bellbird right outside my open bedroom window and his call is liquid clear and penetrating. In the background are other peeps and gurgles and trills — surround-sound. I hear the dawn chorus every morning but seldom really focus on it. What a wonderful time of the day!

Not my photo obviously

  1. Gorgeous! I heard a bellbird the other week. Beautiful sound. It is quieter here with the turkey lads gone. Only one tom left. Several ladies though. :)

  2. Unless the window is open we miss the DC, which I don't mind with the double glazing. But I have to agree that when you stop (as Deb does) and take notice of the little things you appreciate them so much more. :o)>

  3. Because of the heat I had all windows open - have the mozzie bites to show for it :-(
I'm convinced that all the native planting I've done has increased the native bird population :-)

  4. You will be correct then as people have commented to me at their properties over the years that indigenous fauna have increased around the waterways where good locally sourced species have been reintroduced. Well done :o)<

  6. Heat!? Hard to imagine. Amen to all the comments. Especially get well soon, and sorry if you've been sick! And to turning the ordinary into something wonderful just by stopping to notice. I'm missing the dawn chorus now---in our winter. Knew nothing about bellbirds, so googled. Found a youtube of their sound in a fern forest---beautiful---just like distant jingle bells

  7. Hi Deb. I listened to the recording but it didn't sound much like the NZ bellbird - try this one...
