  4. Okay---obviously not Janey---and what a relief, I might add. I admit---I'm no expert of animal husbandry---but that snout can only be of porcine origins---a wild boar of some kind? What?

  5. Sorry Deb ;-) You're quite right - it's a PIG. It was a place we called into in South Canterbury (forgotten the name) where they had a cafe, gift shop and a farmyard for children. This fellow (has to be a guy, eh?) was so ugly he was - as Niki says - kind of cute. I suspect quite old too. I just posted this picture because the birth of Janey's piglets reminded me. They had beautiful donkeys too (I so wanted a donkey when I was small). I'll add a donkey portrait just for contrast...

  6. I am still laughing over this fellow, and that I thought it could have been Niki's mama pig. The most shocking part of the story is that I really thought it might be :-)! Who knew blog reading could be so much fun?

  8. "cupboard love" :-) Had to look up the meaning of that British phrase. New to me, and how quaint and useful! Did you have sugar cubes in your pocket?

  9. Ah, I didn't know it was a British term!! And I've never read a definition; it's just one of those phrases you grow up knowing/using (isn't language wonderful!!). I tend (rather cynically) to think that much animal 'affection' is actually cupboard love, which we humans choose to anthropomorphise (sp?) for our own emotional needs. Which doesn't of course, stop me loving animals and relishing any signs of attachment!!

  10. hehe I think it's a kunekune pig?? I just realised its tongue is hanging out over its teeth. Oh yuck!

lol Yes I will definately post Janey's real face and you will see why we named her after Jane. :) (she's gorgeous)
